From the readings, I find Han Fei’s ideas most applicable and vital to securing peace and social order in a modern state. What Han Fei suggests entails building a state governed by the rule of law, which applies without discrimination. That is, across the society affects the elite, the noble, the strong, the ministers, the intelligent, et cetera. Under the rule of law applying on the equal measure, no one would dare defy it, try to obscure it, fawn, reject, or negate the law in any form or manner. The law is the absolute feature that bids all men together in a fair and just manner despite the rankings in society.
Confucius’s notion that punishment applies as the basis to influence people in making the right decisions is not enough. Domat’s view on the understanding and conviction capacity of the importance of the good order in the state does not guarantee that every complies with it without some form of manipulation. As well, Machiavelli’s advice to the prince in need of using fear to ensure that if he is not loved, he is not hated illustrates the use of thumb rule to install social order, which is very impossible. Therefore, condemning the wrong and championing for the right is the only critical way of securing peace and social order as proposed by Han Fei.
